There Is No Such Thing as a “Small Bribe”

Corruption often does not begin with large crimes. It usually starts with things that may seem ordinary or harmless: a “small favor,” a “thank-you payment,” “tea money,” or an attempt to speed up a process. But any illegal payment, regardless of its size, is a direct blow to justice, the rule of law, and public trust.

Sometimes people try to justify themselves by saying, “It is just a small amount,” “Everyone does it,” or “I only wanted to solve my issue faster.” But corruption never remains small. A bribe given today to skip a line may violate another person’s rights tomorrow. Money accepted today as a “favor” may later result in poor-quality services, unfair decisions, weak institutions, and slower development.

Corruption destroys the principle of equality. People who work honestly, wait legally, and rely on their knowledge, effort, and rights are placed at a disadvantage. As a result, society begins to trust connections instead of the law, money instead of hard work, and shortcuts instead of justice.

The most dangerous part of corruption is that it does not only take money. It destroys trust. Public confidence in government institutions, education, healthcare, construction, public services, and many other areas begins to decline. Where trust disappears, progress slows down, initiative weakens, and society becomes fragile from within.

That is why a bribe is not just money. It is a wrong choice made at the cost of someone’s right, someone’s opportunity, and someone’s future.

Fighting corruption is not only the responsibility of government bodies or official institutions. It is a moral responsibility of every citizen. By refusing to give or take bribes and by not remaining indifferent to injustice, each person contributes to building a fair, honest, and trustworthy society.

Choose Honesty

Honesty is the foundation of a trustworthy future.
Justice is the basis of a strong society.
The rule of law is the guarantee of progress.

There is no such thing as a “small bribe.” Every bribe is a strike against justice. Let us not remain indifferent to corruption. Let us begin change with ourselves.

Do not give bribes. Do not take bribes. Choose honesty.
