Privatization authorities of Turkey and Uzbekistan established cooperation

On October 9 this year, UzSAMA hosted a meeting with representatives of the delegation headed by President of the Privatization Administration of the Republic of Turkey Bekir Emre Haykir.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Uzbekistan Olgan Bekar and Deputy President of the Privatization Administration of Turkey Murat Ibrahim Chelebey also attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the event, Director of UzSAMA A. Ortikov noted that trade, economic and investment partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkey is developing rapidly. Today, leading Turkish companies are actively participating in the Uzbek market, and thanks to this, numerous projects with the participation of Turkish business representatives are being effectively implemented.

As an example, one of the first successful results of privatization in Uzbekistan was cited - the sale of Coca-Cola Ichimligi Uzbekistan Ltd. in 2021 to the Turkish company Coca-Cola İçecek, part of the Anadolu Group holding. After the sale, Coca-Cola Ichimligi Uzbekistan Ltd. implemented modern corporate and financial management systems, significantly increased production capacity and operational efficiency. In addition, a new modern fourth plant was opened in Samarkand in May this year, and a new plant with modern infrastructure and technologies is planned to be built in Namangan in 2025 to replace the existing plant.

It was also noted that cooperation with Turkey is expanding, in particular, in the period from September 23 to 28 this year, a delegation from Uzbekistan visited Ankara at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey. The purpose of the visit was to exchange experience on the history of tourism development in Turkey, legislation in this sphere, as well as issues of transport logistics, organization of tourist centers, development of master plans, allocation of land plots for tourist facilities and privatization in this area.

After the conversation, the sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which is aimed at developing bilateral cooperation within the framework of large-scale reforms being carried out in “New Uzbekistan”. The Memorandum provides for the introduction of best Turkish practices in the management of enterprises with state participation, increased participation of Turkish investors in privatization processes, as well as the exchange of experience in the digitalization of these processes.

The visit also included a presentation on the activities of UzSAMA, including privatization reforms undertaken, results achieved and promising plans for the future.

In addition, a presentation was made on the activities and opportunities of the electronic trading platform “E-auksion”, as well as on the system of land plots realization and the procedure of its functioning in practice. In turn, the head of the Privatization Administration of the Turkey expressed great interest in the system of electronic online auctions “E-auksion” implemented in the UzSAMA, and after studying it asked for cooperation in the implementation of this system in Turkey.

At the end of the event, the parties discussed mechanisms for the implementation of joint projects within the framework of the signed Memorandum and agreed on further steps.
